I believe this is a great play yet somewhat confusing. I understand that Laura is crippled from one leg and she collects glass figures. She is very reserved actually shy from her messed up leg, she kinda lives like in her own little world. The thing I dont understand is all that about the fire escape and the significance of it. And whats so important about the glass menagerie? What happens to Laura at the end when her brother brakes them all?

What’s imporant about the glass menagerie is it’s not only Laura’s world.. like she lives her imagination in those glass figures, but it also symbolizes the family. The family is fragile just how the glass figures are fragile and you can figure what would happen to Laura at the end.. and what would happen to all three of them.. they are not really going to have a happy life.. It’s a depressing play in a way lol :\

The glass menagerie is symbolic to their lives. Its like this, her life was so protected and her mother wanted a certain life for her, but at any moment she could break. Thats what I got from it.
